After working so hard to create
your book you are actually looking for a way to increase your book sales so as
to make up for the invested time, thought, money, energy into creating the
content of your book. You made sure it was well edited, formatted, maybe you
did that yourself or you hired a test reader. You balanced your goal on the
success of the book and the content.
Good, the ugly truth is quite
different from that. There is a popular adage that “A book is judged by its
cover” Yes or No?
You need to dim it fit to put lot
of attention into your book’s cover. The attracting the cover is, the more your
sales. That’s the basic truth. Though the inside matters too but what will
attract people to make them interested in what’s inside is the cover. The more
attracting the cover is, the more it will motivate people to buy it first.
Before choosing your cover, there are something you need to put into
consideration which are:
Genre: The
Genre of your book will determine your cover style. A diet book cover will be
different from a love story book. Then while considering your book cover to
look outstanding, it also need to fit into its category.
Can I create it myself: Yes, you can. Who said you cannot? There are
various free tools, tutorials, free image sites to help you out. Photoshop is a
very good example of a free tools you can use. However, what is your graphics
designing skill level? If you think you cannot design it yourself or your
designing skill is not good enough, hiring a designer is the next available choice.
You can find a top quality designer
that will create your book cover at a very cheap price. You will get a
professional quality book cover, but you need to pay for it. It really matters
as you need to get it if you want people to read what is inside it. This will
definitely increase your sales.
Nevertheless, it’s not the front
that matters but also the content.
Ps: If you are printing your
book, you will also need a binding and back cover. Your type of print will
determine the type of resolution. Share your specification with your designer.
Remember, the cover is the last
thing to consider when publishing your book before you launch. If your cover
fits what your audience expected, it will grab their expectation and increase
your book sales.
