Ranking top on search engine is not an easy task but can be
very easy when you know what you need to do. Gone are the days when link
building is the basis of what is been used in ranking, but nowadays,
several things have changed which
contributed to ranking on top search engines.
To begin with, here are few tips that you can use to
optimize your site to suite Google's algorithm and rank higher
1. Educate your self on the basics of marketing:
No matter how many disruptive technologies or innovations
invented, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has its own fundamentals which are
"MARKETING". Web Marketing with great efforts, possible outcomes and
competitions. The niche you're actually working on doesn't determine your SEO.
You have to work on your SEO with a plan. It's just like driving a car with a
flat tire. Though you might get to where you're going to but what about the
"when you will get there" which is time.
Have you asked yourself these questions before:
- What do I love doing most?
- What makes me different?
- Why should those people I want to target care about what I'm publishing?
- What is my target audience?
- In what way will I connect with them?
- Who are my fellow competitors?
- Why should I be ranked higher more than my fellow competitors?
Map out your plan by conducting your own research, divide
your audience. Set your goals for your SEO efforts and then make sure you have
a way of tracking your effort against your result.
2. Ensure your site is in a well-organized and
easy-to-navigate structure:
Organize your site under intent-based topics, make
sure that each content is properly labeled and distinct (you should only link
to relevant and related topics). Labeling your site content into their specific
topics give both uses and search engines an easy way to identify your level of
expertise and relevant topics to rank you for.
Only those in the e-commerce section which is the Online
Shopping niche for Electronics among others. Don't try to be an expert at
everything because it can never be possible. Pick a niche and and be expert at
that section. As well all know "A rolling stone gathers no moss".
3. Research your keywords:
Your keyword research is actually
very important. You can read on keyword research here.
4. Make your site user friendly:
Who will want to visit an
awkward looking site? Will you? Even if you get there accidentally, you will
quickly navigate away. Internet users now take their browsing experience on
mobile. Google clarified this in one of their article that no good mobile
experience, You won't be love by Google. Ensure the template you are using for
your website or blog is mobile friendly.
5. Write Rich and Enough Content:
Though some people do like to have their content word counts but the question is "can your limited word counts fully discuss what your topic is?" At times you might need to write lengthy post but DO NOT MAKE IT TOO LENGHTY AND BORING.
Before you write that topic, ask yourself these questions:
- Is that page really relevant?
- What is the importance of that post you want to make?
- How unique will the page be on your site and among other pages on the web?
- What is the significant value to readers?
- How easy can it be accessible?
- Will the page or post really answer what your users need that will get them inspired to share it with their friends?
If you can successfully answer the above questions, then you
are good to go.
6. Include Tags:
Tags like meta description, title and
header tags are very important for users and SEO. Include all necessary tags
for each of your post or pages.
7. Keep Your Optimization Simple:
Overdoing everything is
bad. Too much of good thing is bad. Just as we know that sugar is sweet to taste but too much sugar
is harmful to the body. Keep your internal anchor text, liking and footer links
simple. Don't make them excessive. Your optimization should be much more of
creating a user friendly experience alongside internal linking and contents
that are beneficial to users and let Google take it from there.
8. Use of Social Signals:
Social networks cannot be
overlooked when it get to traffic generation. Make use of social signals on
each of your post and make a call to action for users to share your interesting
post to their friends on social network
9. Use Natural Link Building:
It is better to have few high
authority backlinks than millions of spammy links. If you can, engage yourself
with manual dofollow and nofollow backlinks to make it look natural. Try as much
as possible to get edu and gov backlinks to your site. It really helps.
10. Article Submission Sites:
Submit your article to various
article site directories. This as well helps in Search Engine Optimization. If
you can't do it yourself as it might be a very tedious at times, you can
contact me, I will surely help you with a few token.
11. Social Bookmarking Site Submission:
This is also an essential tool as
well. Social bookmarking of a site is simply bookmarking your site on social
network sites like Stumbleupon, google+, delicious, reddit and many more. You
can sign up with these sites and add your site. I will create a more
enlightening post on this later but for now, make use of the 4 sites I
mentioned. This little optimization helps to rank higher.
12. Keep an Up-to-date Analysis of Your Site:
Always know
the health and performance of your site. Know what you have put in place and
know what you need to put in place. There are free tools and paid ones that
will give you detailed report of your site. But there is actually a site that I
do make use of to check the performance of a site. The site works like a paid
